How Maryland companies are leveraging federal tech transfer to compete, grow and win
COLUMBIA, Md., (September 15, 2025) — TEDCO, Maryland’s economic engine for technology companies, announces the panel “DefTech Voices,” taking place at the upcoming 2025 Entrepreneur Expo at The Hotel at the University of Maryland on October 21, 2025. This panel will showcase DefTech member companies that have successfully engaged with federal labs and supporting offices and entered into a tangible agreement in the federal agency technology transfer process.

“DefTech is more than just roundtables and meet-ups; it was created to do one thing, bring Maryland companies into working relationships with the U.S. Department of Defense, other federal labs and their supporting offices,” said Ann Liebschutz, director of federal agency engagement, TEDCO. “When companies are admitted to DefTech, we help them through the process, supporting them as they join agreements with federal labs and related programs. This session is a chance to hear directly from DefTech companies who are now working with federal agencies.”
TEDCO’s DefTech, the Maryland Defense Technology Commercialization Center, is an initiative that helps entrepreneurs identify, evaluate and license federally funded innovations for commercialization. By connecting Maryland companies with advanced technologies developed in federal labs, DefTech empowers them to bring cutting-edge solutions to market faster, strengthen their competitive edge and create jobs.
Joining this session will be:
- Moderator: Ann Liebschutz, TEDCO
- Mina Izadjoo, Integrated Pharma Services
- Neil Sorkin, Redhelm Labs
- Amin Tadayon, LEGIT
- Stephen Luckowski, Department of Defense (DoD)
This session offers an inside look at how Maryland’s innovation ecosystem is tapping into the vast potential of federal research and development to drive private-sector growth. Attendees will hear directly from DefTech members about:
- How they discovered and licensed federally developed technologies
- The challenges and opportunities of working with federal labs

- Lessons learned for other companies interested in tech transfer
