Maryland-based company working to generate renewable power to strengthen infrastructure

COLUMBIA, Md., (March 4, 2026) — TEDCO, Maryland’s economic engine for technology companies,  recently announced providing Concept Capital funding to Gaia Agricultural Technology. As part of the Concept Capital program, eligible entities are allotted $25,000 to support founders during the beginning stages of entrepreneurial ventures.

“Centralized energy relies on the grid—meaning that any failures to the grid will interrupt the services we rely on; we are working to change this,” said James Highsmith, CEO of Gaia Agricultural Technology. “Gaia’s mission is to make energy reliable and transform how institutions design infrastructure for a future built on resilience and local generation. Thanks to TEDCO’s investment, we are one step closer to this goal.”

Gaia Agricultural Technology, located in Fort Washington, Md., is developing infrastructure to generate continuous clean electricity from kinetic water energy. Through this process, the company hopes to support the growth of fresh food installed directly into buildings and spaces.

“Innovation comes in many forms,” said Justin Ferguson, innovation manager, Venture Development at TEDCO. “What Gaia Agricultural Technology is seeking to do brings forth an opportunity for further collaboration across sectors, as well as an innovative way to potentially enhance everyday life. We look forward to watching the company’s journey.”

TEDCO’s Concept Capital program was created to provide critical early-stage funding for tech companies in need of assistance to further launch and grow their business, allowing Maryland to become a hub for entrepreneurial success. “As innovation continues to move forward, technology-based businesses seeking cleaner energy alternatives are making moves to change how we operate today,” said TEDCO CEO Troy LeMaile-Stovall. “And, for those looking to grow. Maryland was ranked as one of the top five ‘Greenest States’ by WalletHub in 2025, offering a vibrant and welcoming community of innovators.”
