The Maryland Technology Development Corp. has tapped as its new chief executive an investor with a track record of leading Baltimore-area startup companies.

After 14 months and two separate searches, the hunt for a new CEO of Maryland Technology Development Corp. has ended and George Davis is ready to take the helm.

George Davis, who ran Gemstone Biotherapeutics, brings experience running and investing in early stage startups. TEDCO’s board chairman called him an “entrepreneur’s entrepreneur.”

TEDCO has announced its 2017 ICE award recipients, and two of the six winners have connections to Johns Hopkins. On May 25, AsclepiX CEO Wendy Perrow was named entrepreneur of the year, and Glyscend received an award for innovation.

Maryland Technology Development Corp. is offering $300,000 to the person or organization that comes up with the best idea for how to support and grow technology companies in the state.

hotDesks and the Maryland Technology Development Corp. (TEDCO) have arranged to have Bill Bernard, the new Rural Business Innovation Initiative (RBI2) Mentor for TEDCO on the Lower Eastern Shore, to hold regular office hours at the hotDesks locations in Easton, Cambridge, Salisbury, and Pocomoke.

The Maryland Stem Cell Research Commission has awarded $8.5 million to 29 projects that will explore how human stem cells can regenerate heart tissue, treat muscular dystrophy and sickle cell disease, and aid diabetes management, among other medical conditions.

The Maryland Stem Cell Research Commission has approved awards of more than $8.5 million for companies and research institutes to address more than 20 diseases and conditions. The money will be spread among six companies and six research institutes in the state.

On Wednesday, March 22nd, the nonprofit Cybersecurity Association of Maryland, Inc. (CAMI), in partnership with PNC Bank and Point3 Security, hosted the inaugural Maryland Cybersecurity Awards Celebration.
