Three awardees receive a total of $175,000 through the program

COLUMBIA, Md., (August 28, 2025) — TEDCO, Maryland’s economic engine for technology companies, announced the first three awardees of the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) Matching Funds (Matching Funds) program.
“The SBIR/STTR programs, also referred to as America’s Seed Fund, were designed to provide non-dilutive funding that will support a company’s path towards commercialization,” said Kim Mozingo, vice president, Federal Programs. “Aligning with TEDCO’s goal of leading innovation to market, the SBIR/STTR Matching Program allows us to take the awards received and enhance them, allowing for furthered growth and development.”
Created to strengthen the power of the SBIR/STTR awards, the Matching Funds program fosters job creation and economic development in Maryland by promoting the commercialization of research, facilitating technology transfer, and encouraging SBIR/STTR program applications. Through this opportunity, companies who have received an SBIR or STTR award within six months of the application cycle are eligible to apply for supplemental funding.

The three awardees include:
- Main Engineering, located in Silver Spring, Md.
- Simmbion, located in Baltimore, Md.
- Whoosh HPC Lab, located in Kensington, Md.
The quarterly cycle offers two funding levels – Phase I awardees can receive up to 25% of their award, capped at $25,000. Phase II awardees can receive up to 25% of the award, capped at $75,000.
