Maryland-based company working to combat autoimmune diseases through innovative platform

COLUMBIA, Md., (May 28, 2026) — TEDCO, Maryland’s economic engine for technology companies, announced a recent $500,000 investment in Nodal Therapeutics through the Life Science Investment Fund. The Life Science Investment Fund is housed under the organization’s Seed Funds umbrella, which includes several funds dedicated to supporting the continued growth of technology and life sciences-based startups across the State.
“Autoimmune diseases are life altering conditions that oftentimes can only be treated symptomatically; we wanted to provide a new solution that can make a difference in people’s lives. Our precision control solution is potent, selective and will allow for a long-lasting tolerance that cures autoimmune diseases without the side-effects of existing therapies,” said Klaus Martin, CEO of Nodal Therapeutics. “TEDCO’s investment in Nodal Therapeutics will help us to continue our research and development efforts as we continue to seek alternative solutions to help improve patients’ lives.”
Nodal Therapeutics, located in Silver Spring, Md., is developing a novel immunotherapy platform designed to selectively stop autoimmune diseases in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the body. The technology—invented in the lab of Institute Prof. Christopher Jewell in the Robert E. Fischell Institute at the University of Maryland, College Park—uses degradable depots introduced directly into lymph nodes, enabling them to function as tolerance factories that could rebalance the body’s immune response.

“Startups dedicated to advancing solutions in the life sciences sector are one of the reasons TEDCO remains committed to identifying, investing in and supporting the growth of startups across the state,” said Teddy Gresser, senior director, Seed Funds, TEDCO. “These innovators and researchers are working to improve current approaches, and we look forward to supporting the state’s continued growth as an emerging life sciences hub.”
Nodal Therapeutics first engaged with TEDCO through the Maryland Innovation Initiative (MII), a program that was established through a collaboration between the State of Maryland and the state’s five academic research institutions. More information about the MII program is available on our website here.
“Maryland is invested in life sciences innovation, research and growth, and that commitment can be seen across the state through recent successes,” said TEDCO CEO, Troy LeMaile-Stovall. “This includes a historic $2 billion investment from AstraZeneca. These achievements would not be possible without the state’s continued investment in innovation and growth. Across Maryland, organizations like TEDCO, research universities and incubators are creating opportunities for startup growth, collaboration and success, helping position Maryland as one of the nation’s leading biopharma clusters.”
